Director, Partner Relations – GRS (Manitoba, Alberta, Ontario or British Columbia)

As part of the overall Wealth Solutions team, the Director, Partner Relations – GRS (Group Retirement Solutions) will support the Partner Solutions division business growth nationally through knowledge of the complete Wealth Solutions value proposition with a specific focus on Group Retirement. The DPR – GRS will connect two of our fastest growing divisions:  Partner Solutions – focused on bringing bundled platform-based benefit, retirement and HR solutions to third party advisors and their clients; and our Wealth/Retirement Solutions division – focused on building and managing retirement and savings programs for clients, and improving the financial wellbeing of their members.

Reporting to the Vice President, GRS, the DPR – GRS will be responsible for supporting all Group Retirement Solutions sales and service through our Partner Solutions division – a distribution network that includes over 2,000 third party advisors.  The successful candidate will build strong internal relationships with the Partner Solutions business, have dotted line accountability to the Vice President, Partner Solutions and work closely with the other DPRs.  They will also build strong relationships with our third-party advisor network and be the specialist on all things related to Wealth (Retirement, Savings and Individual)

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure sales objectives are met and all deliverables are complete and client focussed
  • Overall accountability for Partner Solutions sales team and satisfaction within assigned block
  • Meeting regularly with Partner Solutions team and associated Advisors to demonstrate our commitment to providing exceptional service and support and maintaining positive relationships
  • Where necessary, dialogue with insurance carrier contacts in working with clients to set up, manage and administer recordkeeping arrangements
  • Facilitate, follow-up, resolve and communicate any escalated service issue
  • Escalate major issues or concerns to VP, GRS and other members of the management team, as appropriate, to ensure client retention
  • Communicate with and educate plan sponsors, DPRs and associated advisors on existing or new initiatives — from forms to products. Provide training as necessary
  • Manage relationships and deliver consulting services to an assigned block of key accounts including responding to general and technical questions regarding plan and legislative requirements
  • Maintain a high client retention rate through the development of strong relationships and providing excellent client service and solutions
  • Participate in finalist meetings to support the new business acquisition process
  • Expand and maintain existing block of business by identifying opportunities and presenting solutions to clients
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending education workshops and keeping up-to-date with industry publications
  • Manage employee presentations and co-ordinate member education sessions as required
  • Develop/approve employee communication memos for plan sponsors to communicate changes to their employees
  • Define service standards with clients and manage account lifecycle according to set service

  • Take part in transitioning new business acquisitions to the ongoing management service model
  • Communicate project development and progress to VP, GRS as necessary to ensure that the proper internal resources are assigned and available to assist in the execution of tasks within the required time frames
  • Build and manage effective relationships with internal staff and external business partners
  • Maintain a high degree of technical and industry expertise
  • Participate in industry conferences, seminars, etc.. to promote GRS/People Corporation services and keep abreast of industry trends and activities
  • Travel as necessary to fulfill the duties of employment
  • Educate and up-sell clients on GRS products and services


  • 5+ years of industry and group retirement related experience, preferably with a major insurance carrier, advisor or consulting firm
  • Sales and/or service related experience
  • An understanding of the group benefits industry and the advisor experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Self starter focused on growth
  • Life license required (within 6 months of joining)
  • French Bilingual an asset
  • Preferably located in Manitoba, Western Canada, or Ontario
